Francis Bay 4-12

We start the day with a simple plan, some school work and then a stop in Red Hook to get groceries before sailing over to Magen’s Bay on St. Thomas for the night. Unfortunately, after their ‘spring break’ the kids have completely forgotten how to study and quickly go into melt down mode. By the time we get through their school work, its too late to go anywhere. The weather has not been great today, mostly cloudy with frequent rain showers. I think its the first day of our trip that we didn’t swim at least once.

Delaina spotted a big fish swimming behind the boat that looked a little shark like. We through a couple of bread crumbs in and it came up to the surface. We had been fooled again – its a remora. They really swim like sharks.

One bright point to the rain showers was the huge rainbow we saw. We could see both ends and it seemed to come down on the beach in front of the boat.

The See’s departure is a reminder that our own trip will be over soon – only 2 more weeks – and after today’s wasted day, I feel the need to be moving. Our plan from Magen’s Bay was to sail over to the Spanish Virgins. The wind is forecast to drop down on Weds and Thursday (today is Monday) and motoring the whole way does not sound like fun. So we decide to get up early, hit Red Hook first thing in the morning and then sail on to Culebrita in the Spanish Virgins. Its a 30-35  mile trip, so we should be able to do it in one day. The kids and Tracy watch Hercules for evening entertainment. I have developed a cold and sore throat, and turn in early.
